BACKGROUND: In HOLLIS prior to spring 1995, the 752 field was stripped from incoming serial records. With the change of policy, the Serial Cataloging Team completed a project to identify newspaper records in HOLLIS and add the 752 field locally. The field is indexed in the PL index. Appendix B.3 in the HUL Bibliographic Standards provides information about the local use of the field.
PROCEDURES: CONSER Policy: The 752 field (Added entry--hierarchical place name) is required in CONSER records for newspapers and rare serials. Guidelines for use of the field are detailed in the CONSER Editing Guide and the Newspaper Cataloging and Union Listing Manual.
