Using RefWorks at Harvard

Support and Links

Leaving Harvard? What to do...

In order not to lose valuable bibliographic data, RefWorks users leaving Harvard should plan in advance (while their Harvard PIN/ID is still valid) to backup or export their RefWorks database. Here are solutions to two common scenarios:

You are transferring to another institution that subscribes to RefWorks or you plan to purchase an individual subscription to RefWorks...

From RefWorks, go to References > Backup/Restore. Follow the instructions to download the ".rwb" file. When your new RefWorks account is activated, open RefWorks and go back to References > Backup/Restore and upload your ".rwb" file.

To receive an alumni promotional code that will entitle you to a discounted individual annual subscription rate of $50, contact RefWorks Support (support@refworks.com) and provide them with your Harvard RefWorks account login and e-mail address.

You would like to transfer your RefWorks data to some other kind of bibliographic software (like EndNote, Reference Manager or ProCite)...

From RefWorks, go to Tools > Export References. Select one of the export formats (based on the descriptions provided) and download your file. Then, import the downloaded file into your new bibliographic management software.
