KSI ebooks(Harvard ID/PIN required)
E-book versions of a wide range of South Korean publications in pdf format. Please note that texts may be downloaded and printed page-by-page, but entire texts cannot be downloaded. Multi-set volumes published within the last year may also not be available.

Kdatabase 한국학전자도서관 (Harvard ID/PIN required)
Kdatabase provides full text and image files of scholarship and materials on modern and contemporary Korea (post-1945) dealing with a wide range of topics including history, politics, and economics. Keyword searching as well as browsing by period, topic, author and title. Includes a range of texts, such as journal articles, archival documents, and e-books. Certain functions, such as the bulletin board and memo, require that you register with the site, but there is no charge.

KoreaA2Z(Harvard ID/PIN required)
Full-text databases on such topics as classical Korean literary works, historical records (e.g. rosters of examination papers), and articles from older newspapers and journals.

Korean History & Culture Research Database 한국역사문화 조사자료 데이터베이스 (Harvard ID/PIN required)
This database provides full-text and image files of archaeological excavation site reports and journals in Korean archaeology. Searcheable and browsable by titles, periods, regions, and publishers.

Korea Knowledge Portal 국가지식포털
The official gateway to South Korean government documents. For more information about its contents, please see the description under "Subject Gateways." Access to texts by users outside Korea requires registration and is limited to Korean citizens.

National Digital Library 국가전자도서관
The largest information database for materials on pre-1950 Korea with particularly rich contents on the Japanese Occupation period. For more information about its contents, please see the description under "Subject Gateways."

Some South Korean library catalogs provide some full text, although access may be limited. Please see the section on Library Catalogs for more information.

National Library of Korea - Harvard-Yenching Library Korean rare book digitization project
As part of a cooperative project between Yenching Library and the National Library of Korea, 473 titles of rare works unavailable in Korea were digitized between 2007 and 2010.  Rare books digitized through this project are accessible through HOLLIS (click here for a HOLLIS list of titles already digitized) and KORCIS (Korean Old and Rare Collection Information System).

Minsokwon - Harvard-Yenching Library Korean rare book digitization project
As part of a cooperative project between Yenching Library and Minsokwon, Sego titles of Korean rare books are being digitized between 2010 and 2011.  Rare books digitized through this project are accessible through HOLLIS (click here for a HOLLIS list of titles already digitized).

Korean History On-line supports cross-searching 13 Korean history databases: National Institute of Korean History (국사편찬위원회), Kyujanggak (규장각), Jongyŏnggak (존경각), Munchŏn’gak (문천각), the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea (국가보훈처), Independence Hall of Korea (독립기념관), Academia Coreana (명지대학교 국제한국학 연구소), Korean Classics Research Institute (민족문화추진회), the Korea Democracy Foundation (민주화운동 기념사업회), the War Memorial of Korea (전쟁기념사업회), the Korean Studies Advancement Center (한국국학진흥원), Korean Women’s Development Institute (한국여성개발원), and the Academy of Korean Studies (한국학중앙연구원). Search by keyword, title, author, summary, and publisher.  
Korean History Database 국사데이터베이스

This comprehensive full-text database developed by the National Institute of Korean History (NIHK, 국사편찬위원회) includes publications by the NIHK and important resources for Korean history studies such as the Annals of the Chosŏn Dynasty (조선왕조실록), the Diary of the Royal Secretariat (승정원일기) during the Chosŏn Dynasty. Newspapers and magazines of modern and contemporary Korea, Korean history time-table (1860-1981), and many more resources about the Korean War and Korean resistance movement during Japanese rule are available. More than 10,000 photographs and images are included along with subject and name index.

Kyujanggak Institute & E- Kyujanggak 서울대학교 규장각 한국학연구원

Kyujanggak, originally established as the Royal Archives of the Chosŏn Dynasty in 1776, provides digital images of 88 old books in full-text PDF files, which include Kuunmong 구운몽, Kyŏngguk Taejŏn 경국대전(經國大典), Koryŏsa 고려사(高麗史), Kukcho Pogam 국조보감(國朝寶鑑), Taedong Chiji 대동지지(大東地誌), Samguk Sagi 삼국사기(三國史記), and Hanjungrok 한중록(恨中錄).

E-Kyujanggak offers more convenient access to digitized collections available either in full-text or as high-definition digital images. Digitized collections include old maps, books, documents, government records of the late Chosŏn dynasty and during Japanese rule, and historic documents of the Chosŏn dynasty such as Ilsŏngrok (일성록), Pibyŏnsa Tŭngrok (비변사 등록), and Ŭigwe (의궤). The database is easy to browse and provides sophisticated search functions.

Korean Classics Research Institute 민족문화추진회
The Korean Classics Research Institute offers eleven full-text databases, which include more than 1,330 works of Korean classics. Included are Kojŏn Kugyŏk Ch’ongsŏ (고전국역총서), Kugyŏk Sŭngjŏngwŏn Ilgi (국역 승정원일기), Kugyŏk Ilsŏngrok (국역 일성록), Kukhak Wŏnjŏn (국학원전), Han’guk Muniip Ch’onggan (한국문집총간), Han’guk Munjip Ch’onggan Haeje (한국문집총간해제), Han’guk Munjip Ch’onggan Ch’ong mokcha (한국문집총간총목차), Sasŏ Sŏngdok (사서성독), Oju Yŏnmun Changjŏn San’go (오주연문장전산고), and Kojŏn Kugyŏksŏ Sŏji Chŏngbo (고전국역서 서지정보).

Digitized Historical Materials of Changsŏ-gak (Jangseo-gak) 한국학 전자도서관
A database of digitized collections of Jangsŏ-gak, the library of the Academy of Korean Studies (한국학중앙연구원), which provides a variety of materials including early han'gul novels, the unofficial history of the Chosŏn dynasty and diaries (조선조 야사 및 일기), and audiovisual materials about Korean culture, oral literature (구비문학), folk songs (민요), and dialects (방언).

The Database of Genealogies in Korea 朝鮮族譜データベース
Allows searching of bibliographic information and provides scanned images of the Korean genealogies held by the Institute of Oriental Culture of the University of Tokyo 東京大学東洋文化研究所. 640 items are available online. Search terms include family name, genealogy title, clan, publication date and request number. Searching is by character (this may be input using different IMEs). There is an option to browse bibliographic information by han'gul and romanization. The image file index is organized by the request number 請求記号.

The Annals of the Chosŏn Dynasty from the reigns of Kojong and Sunjong (Kojong Sunjong Sillok 고종순종실록) are available in full-text, including both original version in Chinese characters and rendition into han'gul. In-library use.

A database of digitized collections of Jangsŏ-gak, the library of the Academy of Korean Studies (한국학중앙연구원). Includes early han'gul novels and audiovisual materials on oral literature (구비문학), folk songs (민요), and dialects (방언). See the fuller description above

Korean Literature Translation Institute 한국문학번역원
A multi-lingual site providing information about translations of Korean literary works along with a variety of reference tools. Interviews with contemporary Korean writers are available as audio files. Some full text of older works on Korea and of Korean works which have been translated is provided. Korean Modern Literature 100 years 한국문학 100년

A fully searchable database of modern Korean literature. 1,000 poems and 100 works of fiction are available in full-text, and information about more than 120,000 works of modern Korean literature and dissertations on those works is also included along with 7,000 photographs. In-library use.

National Memory Heritage Service 국가기록유산
An extensive database of written records of Korea in both paper and non-paper format. Old manuscripts, xylographic and moveable type books, royal/government/civilian documents, calligraphy, and personal correspondence can be viewed as digital images or texts.

Korean Old Document 한국의 고문서
This database provides old documents that belonged to well-known Korean families both in Korean and in English. The documents are arranged by four different subjects: bureaucratic life, local self-government and civil affairs, economic life, and female life.

Digital Chikchi 디지탈직지
This site provides the “Baegun hwasang chorok buljo jikji simche yojeol, Vol. II” (‘Jikji’), the world’s oldest existing book printed with metallic type in 1377 in digital images and texts in Korean, Chinese, and English. This book is also available at the library. See Chikchi 直指 (Seoul: Pogyŏng Munhwasa, 1997), Pulcho chikchi simch’e yojŏl 불조직지심체요절 (Seoul: Pŏmusa, 1997), and Chikchi ha 直指 下 (Seoul: Taehan Min’guk Munhwa Kongbobu Munwhajae Kwalliguk, 1973).

The Complete Collection of the Korean Study of Confucian Classics 한국경학자료시스템
An extensive database of the texts of the Korean studies of Confucian classics. The full collection in 145 volumes — Taehak (대학 大學), Chungyong (중용, 中庸), Nonŏ (논어, 論語), Maengja (맹자, 孟子), Sŏgyŏng(서경, 書經), Sigyŏng (시경, 詩經), Igyŏng (이경, 易經), Yegi (예기, 禮記), Ch'unch'u (춘추, 春秋), and annotations by Korean Confucian scholars — have been compiled by the Institute of Eastern Studies at Sungkyunkwan University. The texts are fully searchable, and author and book title indexes are available.

Comprehensive Information on Confucian Culture 유교문화종합정보
These databases of Korean Confucian culture developed by the Korean Studies Advancement Center (한국국학진흥원) provide the collective works of Yŏngnam Sarimpa (영남사림문집), the Journals of Yŏngnam Sarimpa (영남사림일기), the Tosan Sŏwŏn Classics (도산서원 고문서), the Stylist Classics (명문과 고문서), and the Confucian Who's Who in the Yŏngnam region(영남지역 유학인물) in full-text along with annotations. Text is searchable by title, author, source, and keyword. More than 1200 articles of old Korean documents, books, and paintings are also included in multimedia format.

Resources for East Asian Language and Thought
A variety of tools for the study of Korean philosophy, as well as East Asian thought more broadly. Compiled by Charles Muller, a professor at Toyo Gakuen University 東洋学園大学. Includes annotated translations into English of several texts, including the exchange between the Neo-Confucianist scholar Jeong Dojeon and the Buddhist monk Gihwa (Pulssi Chappyǒn 佛氏雜辨 and Hyǒnjǒngnon顯正論) and an annotated edition of Weonhyo's Ijangŭi (二障義 Doctrine of the Two Hindrances).
