Searching the HOLLIS (Harvard OnLine Library Information System) Catalog

Finding Journals

By clicking on the Journal Titles tab, located between the Find Articles and Digital Resources tabs (see screenshot below), users can access a special subset of the HOLLIS Catalog designed to facilitate finding journals across Harvard libraries. Once you are in this section, the screen background color will change to yellow.

Note: Despite the color coding system, it can be easy to forget that you are limiting your search to a particular subset of the HOLLIS Catalog. Make sure to return to Full Catalog after you complete your search for journal titles, reserves, or digital resources.

Browsing Titles

Do a Journal Title beginning with... search if you know the exact title (or the exact beginning of the title) of a journal. This will allow you to browse through an alphabetical list of journal titles:

Sample search for journal title beginning with 'quizzical gazette and merrycompanion'

Keywords Anywhere

Do a Keywords anywhere search if you know part of the title of the journal or the topic covered by the journal.

Sample search for journals with 'economics' and 'ecology' anywhere in the title

Holdings

Once you get results list from your search, you can see if a particular library owns a specific year of the journal you need by clicking the Holdings link in the record.

Note: in the example shown below, this journal is available both in print format and as a Networked Resource available online to Harvard researchers. To access the electronic version (or e-journal), simply click the Internet Link and you will be taken directly to the electronic journal.
