9. Professional Development

To help you prepare in your job search, we offer these suggestions.

Scholarly Pursuits

Scholarly Pursuits: A Guide to Professional Development During the Graduate Years, by Cynthia Verba, offers advice on professional development in preparation for an academic career and for enhancing PhD career opportunities more generally. It also includes samples of ellowship proposals, CVs, and cover letters for job applications. The guide is available free to all GSAS students, both online and in paper from the GSAS Dean's Office, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue, Holyoke Center, 3rd Floor.

Chronicle of Higher Education

Read the Chronicle of Higher Education, a major source of news and information about the academic world. Harvard University students and faculty have access to the full-text of The Chronicle online from January 8, 1999 through the present via the e-resource Academic Search Premier. The most current month is not available in full-text. Most Harvard libraries also have print subscriptions to the publication.
