1. Introduction
This guide presents research strategies and sources for the study of French and Francophone literature and literary theory. Contextual sources (literature surveys, subject dictionaries, bibliographies and literary histories, etc.) and selected electronic texts and internet sites are included, giving both a selection of important resources and a view of the organization of knowledge in the field.
Links to basic research strategies, resources and tools are mentioned in the Introduction. Part 2 of the guide presents contextual materials for all literary periods, followed by Parts 3-6 which cover works for individual centuries and Francophonie. Literature surveys, subject dictionaries, bibliographies and literary histories are described. Part 7 covers Dissertations; Part 8 is devoted to Literary Theory and Criticism; Part 9 focuses on major scholarly electronic text projects; Part 10 lists Selected Film Sources and Part 11 includes freely accessible internet resources. Links to other guides with more sources are also provided throughout.
Annotations are descriptive and intended to provide overviews of contents where useful, and the intent, scope and purpose of the work, where relevant. Most of the sources selected are relatively recent (mostly published in the past 20 years), but some noteworthy older titles are included.
The guide is an ongoing project; more sources will be added to cover particular genres and new publications. Your suggestions are welcome.
