Electronic resources and websites that provide information about, links to, or online access to digital image collections, including materials on East Asia.

Introductory Guide to Research in History of Art & Architecture
These selected resources provide a basis for electronic research on topics in the history of art and architecture. While electronic resources have simplified some aspects of research in this discipline, such as searching many years of periodical literature indexes simultaneously, other important research resources are available only in printed form.

Accunet / AP Multimedia Archive (requires Harvard ID/PIN)
Searchable database of over 700,000 Associated Press photographs, charts and other graphics from the 1840s to the present. Accompanying captions and credits are also included. Images can be downloaded for later use. This database can be searched by topic, location, date and concept, and it includes both an International and a Euro/Asia archive.

ExEAS - Links
Links to a wide range of sites with images of East Asia. Created as part of Columbia University's Expanding East Asian Studies program.

Global Memory Net
Contains images and information about image and digital collections around the world, including many maps, photographs, and cultural and historical images from East Asia, especially China. Searching based on terms and on similarity of image are both possible. Registration is required to view images, but there is no charge.

International Collections Database, University of Washington Libraries' Digital Collections
Historical images of Asia, South America, and Egypt taken between the 1870s and 1930s.

NYPL Digital
Images from the New York Public Library’s rare and unique collections, including many from East Asia. Includes a searchable database.

Photographic Collections of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge
Information about and some digital images of photographs held by the Museum. Specific collections for South Asia, Southeast Asia (especially Malaysia), Inner Mongolia, Tibet, Sikkim and Bhutan. There is also a searchable database dedicated to photographs, which also includes item-level description for images from other parts of East Asia, including Korea and Japan.

RSC Photograph Project
Images from the photographic archive of Cambridge University Library's Royal Commonwealth Society. Also includes biographical information on photographers active in Asia.

Yūhō Bunko Collection of the Research Institute for Oriental Cultures of Gakushuin University 学習院大学東洋文化研究所所蔵・友邦文庫
Large collection of historical materials relating to the Government-General of Korea during the Japanese colonial period. Early twentieth-century photographs of Korea, Manchuria, and Inner Mongolia taken by Japanese photographers are available as image files via Gakushuin University's online catalogue.
