China Academic Journals, CNKI 中国学术期刊网 (Harvard ID/PIN required)
Coverage: First issue - present
Now includes content from Century Journals Project, CNKI 中国学术期刊网; searching and browsing is integrated.
If requested, click on IP Login in the top left-hand corner to access the Harvard-subscribed databases. Usually you should just see a "Welcome, Harvard" message.
A full-text, searchable database of journals from
the People's Republic of China. Articles may be downloaded and saved or printed; citations may be exported to Refworks (see instructions below).
Current subscription to China Academic Journals (CAJ) includes the social sciences & humanities, medicine/hygiene, and agriculture series; Century Journals Project provides coverage back to the first date of issue for these titles.
Technical Requirements: Full text may be downloaded using Acrobat Reader with Adobe simplified Chinese fonts or with the CAJ Viewer. Please note that the CAJ Viewer 7.0 allows you to search within the downloaded texts and export to Word. Citations may also be downloaded and saved. PC- and Mac-compatible.
Using Refworks: Citations from China Academic Journals may be imported into Refworks. Detailed instructions with screenshots are available from the database User Guide. For more help with Refworks, please see the Using RefWorks at Harvard guide.
- Click the name of the database e.g. China Academic Journals Full Text Database.
- Enter your search term and click search.
- From the results list, click in the boxes next to the desired citations.
- Click Save.
- Click the Refworks link under "Output Format."
- Click Save in the dialogue box, and then save the file as a text file on your computer.
- In Refworks, go to References, and then Import.
- For Import Filter/Data Source, choose Refworks Tagged Format. Do not use "China Journal Net 中国期刊网" or CNKI - 中国知识资源总库. Make sure encoding is set to UTF-8.
- Under Import Data from the following Text File, click Browse to find your saved citations file. Select it and click Open.
- Click Import at the bottom of the screen.
- Click View Last Imported Folder to see the citations in Refworks. Please note that only the basic citation information (author, title, source, year of publication, issue number for journals) will be imported; there will be no pinyin, English translation, abstract, page numbers, etc.).
China Online Journals 数字化期刊全文数据库 (Harvard ID/PIN required)
Coverage: 1997 - present
Provides searching and full text of mainland Chinese journals. Full text is provided in pdf format and may be downloaded, printed, etc. Please note that this does not include English Online Journals.
To browse journals by issue, click on Browse. You can search for the title with characters or browse lists by pinyin title or subject. Choose the issue you wish to browse to see a list of articles linked to full text.
Technical Requirements:Works best with Internet Explorer. Some functions, but not all, work with Firefox.
China Online Journals is one of the Wanfang 万方databases, so it may be cross-searched along with other Wanfang products. Current subscriptions include Academic Conferences in China 中国会议论文数据库, Dissertations of China 中国学位论文数据库, and Policies and Laws of China 政策法规数据库.

Coverage: 1970 - present
Citation index for over 4,000 periodicals held by the National Central Library in Taiwan. Indexes journals primarily published in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. A free version of this site, covering only the last ten years, is also available.
Articles which have already been scanned are indicated with a

Articles whose full text may be available for free download are indicated with a

National Index to Chinese Newspapers & Periodicals 全国报刊索引
Coverage: 1857 to present
Citation index for mainland Chinese newspapers and journals from the mid-nineteenth century on, created by the Shanghai Library 上海图书馆.
Harvard's subscription does not include the separate conference papers 会议 or Western-language 西文 components, nor is full text available for download from the site.
Full functionality with Internet Explorer only.
- Click on 用户登录 to enter the database. If this option does not appear, all user slots may be full; wait a little while and try again.
- There are several options for searching: basic 普通检索, advanced 高级检索, limited by discipline and sub-discipline 学科检索.
- You may also browse by journal title 期刊检索 and/or search within a particular journal or set of journals by browsing to that level and searching within the journal results 在结果中检索.
- Click on an article title for complete citation information.
- Click in the box next to each result to save particular citations, or choose 全选 at the top of the first column to select all. Download citations as a text file by clicking 数据下栽 at the bottom.
- Submit a request to Yenching Library staff for document delivery of items by clicking on 原文索取 next to an individual citation or at the bottom of the page for a group of citations.
- Logout by clicking on 注销.

Korean, and Western languages. Includes journal articles and monographs.
Coverage is strongest for Chinese, Japanese, and Western languages. Allows author
and title keyword searching. It offers two interfaces:
- Japanese-language interface: Search terms may be entered in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or Western languages. Please note that characters, kana, and Western-language search terms will search for those precise terms. i.e. 蒙古, モンゴル, and Mongolia will retrieve different records. Please enter katakana terms with full-width katakana. Searching capability in hangul is limited.
