Introduction

This guide provides an introduction to selected electronic resources for Chinese studies. Most are available online, but some digital products in other formats (e.g. CD-ROM) are also included. Please note that this is not intended to be a comprehensive list and that some sites may require subscription or registration. The majority of resources selected are primarily or entirely in Chinese.

Harvard-Yenching Library: Full View/Short View

Extensive Chinese-language collection as part of holdings on East Asia. Humanities and social sciences.

Fung Library: Full View/Short View

The Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies Collection focuses on social-science materials relating to the Chinese Communist Party and contemporary China. These include unpublished materials. About half the collection is in Chinese.

Fine Arts Library: Full View/Short View

The Rübel Asiatic Research Collection holds materials in Chinese and other East Asian languages on East Asian art. Fine Arts also collects Western-language works on East Asian art.

Government Documents / Microforms: Full View/Short View

Collects a wide range of publications from the US government, including translations of East Asian media, as well as foreign government, UN, census, and other materials.

Harvard Law School Library: Full View/Short View

Foreign Law Collection collects materials on Chinese law in Chinese and in other languages, as well as materials on and from Japan, Korea and other countries of the world. Tozzer Library: Full View/Short View

Anthropological and ethnographic materials, including many on East and Inner Asia.

Widener Library: Full View/Short View

Materials in Western languages on Asia, including China. Much of the Tibetan and Mongolian collections are also housed at Widener, as is the Sanskrit Library. The Newspaper Collection holds a number of newspapers from Asia, including the North China Herald and Osaka Mainichi.

Countway Library of Medicine: Full View/Short View

Medical and public-health resources, including some publications in Chinese.

Andover-Harvard Theological Library: Full View/Short View

Collects on religion and philosophy, including those of East Asia, in Western languages. Also holds a number of missionary publications and papers.

Arthur M. Sackler Museum -- Asian Art Collection: Full View/Short View

strong East Asian art collection, including Chinese archaic jades and bronze ritual vessels, Buddhist art, and ceramics. Periodic China-related exhibitions and events.

Committee on Regional Studies -- East Asia: Full View/Short View

Master's program in East Asian studies.

Harvard East Asia Society: Full View/Short View

Sponsors events for graduate students in East Asian studies and organizes an annual graduate student conference.

Asia Pacific Policy Program: Full View/Short View
