This guide provides a set of resources for advanced undergraduate research in Botany at the Cabot Science Library. This list is not intended to be exhaustive or comprehensive. Cabot Library holds the general science collections for the university; additional resources are available at the Botany Libraries, Ernst Mayr Library of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Library, and the Environmental Information Center. Cabot Science Library has a large collection of current journals on the main floor of the library. We have couches and arm chairs available for comfortable browsing of the collection. Older issues can be found in the basement. For access to electronic copies of journals, look up the journal’s title in the HOLLIS catalog, where an internet link will be available if Harvard owns a subscription. Or you may use the E-Journals list available through the E-Research @ Harvard site. To locate individual articles within the journals, use one of the databases listed in this guide (individual articles are not available in the catalog or the e-journal list).

Biosis Previews (Biological Abstracts) (1969-)
http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:hul.eresource:biosisp1 -- is a database for life science research covering traditional areas of biology and zoology as well as biomedical fields, agriculture, pharmacology and ecology. Interdisciplinary fields such as biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering and biotechnology are also included. Its print equivalents are Biological Abstracts and Biological Abstracts/RRM.
AGRICOLA (16th cent.-)

CAB Abstracts (1973-)
http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:hul.eresource:cababstr The CAB Abstracts database indexes research and development literature in agriculture, forestry, human and animal nutrition, animal health, natural resource management and conservation, and related aspects of human health. Focal areas are animal and plant science, crop protection, parasitology, soil science, rural development, economics, horticulture, and agricultural engineering.
Citation Indexes / Web of Science (1945-)
http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:hul.eresource:scicitin -- Science Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the sciences. It indexes 5,700 major journals across more than 150 scientific disciplines. Because the information stored about each article includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography), you can also search this database for articles that cite a known author or work.

Articles from all journals are available in Acrobat portable document format (pdf), and most journals are also available in HTML format. Subject coverage focuses on biological, ecological, and environmental sciences.
