Anctil Appointed Human Resource Services Director
Anna Anctil was recently appointed as the Director of HCL Human Resource Services.
January 8, 2009 – Anna Anctil has been appointed to the position of Director of Human Resource Services (HRS) for Harvard College Library, effective January 1, 2010, Associate Librarian Rebecca Graham announced Wednesday.
“Anna has provided strong leadership during a time of substantial fiscal challenge and organizational change,” Graham said, in announcing the appointment. “She played a significant role in helping guide HCL through a wide range of critical and unusual challenges – from voluntary retirement to workforce reductions to organizational changes and redesign – while at the same time maintaining the regular HR operations.”
Appointed interim director of HRS in spring 2009, Anctil has been involved in major efforts, including the reorganizations of HCL Technical Services and Public Services in Widener and Lamont. She also assisted in personnel issues around general collections care under Preservation and Imaging Services.
In an email message to staff earlier this week Graham wrote, “Anna's thoughtful and steady leadership has been instrumental in moving HCL through these difficult times and has made it clear that she is well suited for both the position and the organization. She brings the continuity and stability to the role that we have been seeking.”
Going forward, Anctil said her immediate goals are to streamline human resource processes and to continue working with HCL staff to manage changes at the libraries.
“Within the HR office we are defining our roles and aligning our priorities to ensure that we meet the needs of staff in this evolving environment. We want to deliver the best customer service possible.” Anctil said. “I’m working with HCL Information Technology Services to streamline routine HR processes by putting them online, and working with managers on talent management and succession planning.”
Customer service has been a theme of Anctil’s throughout her career. Prior to coming to Harvard, she worked in human resources for customer service oriented businesses including WGBH, Genuity, and the Colonnade Hotel. She also served as an adjunct lecturer in Management at Washington State University in Seattle, Washington. Anctil came to HCL in October 2007 as a Senior HR Consultant with responsibility for compensation, performance development, and reclassifications. In 2009 she was appointed interim HR Director.
Anctil has a Masters in Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Cornell University and a Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and International Business from American University.
