Harvard-Yenching's 2006 Holiday Greeting Cards Available

December 4, 2006 - Each year since 1998, Harvard-Yenching Library has offered a series of holiday and note cards featuring images from interesting pieces in its rare book collection. The images for the 2006 cards were selected by Mikyung Kang, Librarian for the Korean Collection, and include a 1795 woodblock print illustrating a dance from the celebration of Hyegyŏnggung Hong Ssi's 60th birthday and a 1865 woodblock illustration of Ch'oe Ssi suyŏn.

Both the holiday and note cards cost $10 for a box of 12 cards and envelopes and are available in Room 115 of the Harvard-Yenching Library, 2 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02138. For more information contact Anna Dunavin at 617-495-3327 or dunavin@fas.harvard.edu.

The 2006 holiday card is from a 1795 woodblock print illustrating one of the dances during the celebration of Hyegyŏnggung Hong Ssi's 60th birthday, called "Ch'ŏyongmu." This mask dance is based on the tale of Ch'ŏyong in the Silla period.

The 2006 holiday note card is from a 1865 woodblock illustration of Ch'oe Ssi suyŏn, showing the banquet in celebration of the 60th birthday of the wife of Kim Yun-gwang, Ch'oe Ssi.
