Freshman Parents Gather at Lamont Library for Reception
November 1, 2005 - Parents of Harvard freshmen gathered in the Forum Room of Lamont Library Friday, October 28, for the Harvard College Library's Freshman Parents' Reception. Annually, the Friends of the Harvard College Library sponsor a reception to welcome and introduce parents to the library as part of the campus-wide Freshman Parents' Weekend. The brunch reception gives parents a chance to meet librarians, learn about library programs, and discover how the library figures in their child's daily activities. Tours of Lamont and Widener allowed parents to see where their student may study and demonstrated the many resources available in the libraries.
Lynne M. Schmelz, Librarian for the Sciences and co-chair of the Friends, gave opening remarks. Marilyn Wood, Associate Librarian of Harvard College for Collection Management, spoke to parents about how the libraries factor into their students' lives.
Arrangements for the reception were made by Margaret Kennedy, Administrative Coordinator for Development, Office of the Librarian of Harvard College, and Lynne Schmelz.
