Annual Competition for Undergraduate Book Collecting Prize Underway

Roland Lamb, ‘06, and Phoebe Kosman, ‘05, were both awarded first place in last year's competition.
November 14, 2003 -- The annual competition for the Visiting Committee Prize for Undergraduate Book Collecting, established to recognize and encourage book collecting by undergraduates at Harvard, is now underway. Students interested in books, writing about books, and who have invested time building a collection that has a unifying theme -- author, period, subject, genre, type of book – should declare their intention to enter by Friday, December 5, 2003. Declarations should be addressed to Heather Cole, Librarian of Hilles and Lamont Libraries, and include the scope and subject of the collection. The prizes, first prize $1000, second prize $750, third prize $500, honor students with compelling book collections of any kind; cost or intrinsic value of collections in not a factor. Deadline for final entries is Friday, February 13, 2004.

For complete entry rules see http://hcl.harvard.edu/lamont/vcbookprize/rules.html. The prize was established by the members of the Board of Overseer’s Committee to Visit the Harvard University Library.
