Annual Competition for Undergraduate
Book Collecting Prize Underway
November 14, 2003 -- The annual competition for the Visiting Committee Prize for
Undergraduate Book Collecting, established to recognize and encourage book collecting
by undergraduates at Harvard, is now underway. Students interested in books, writing
about books, and who have invested time building a collection that has a unifying
theme -- author, period, subject, genre, type of book – should declare their
intention to enter by Friday, December 5, 2003. Declarations should be addressed
to Heather Cole, Librarian of Hilles and Lamont Libraries, and include the scope
and subject of the collection. The prizes, first prize $1000, second prize $750,
third prize $500, honor students with compelling book collections of any kind;
cost or intrinsic value of collections in not a factor. Deadline for final entries
is Friday, February 13, 2004.
