Harvard-Yenching Library Announces New Holiday Greeting Cards

December 6, 2001 -- Annually, images and passages from Harvard-Yenching rare volumes are used to create holiday greeting cards and note cards. This year, Phan Thi Ngoc Chan, Vietnamese Collections Librarian, and Raymond Lum, Librarian for the Western Languages Collection in the Harvard-Yenching Library, have selected a 1651 edition of Alexandre de Rhodes' eight-day catechism in Latin and Vietnamese for the cover of the greeting card. The note cards feature water puppets from Vietnamese folk art. No greeting is written on the cards, so they can be used for any occasion. Cards from past years are also available in six different styles.

The cards come in packages of twelve, at a cost of $8.50 per pack. If you are interested in purchasing a set of cards, please contact Jessica Eykholt at 5-3327.

The 2001 Harvard-Yenching holiday greeting cards are now available.

Cards from previous years depict the 1843 offices of the Royal Stable Administration in Korea, an illustration from a wood block picture book, Korin hyaduzu, and an illustration from Ogi shu created in the early 17th century during the Edo period.
