HCL Hosts Library Open Houses
November 15, 2005 — Over the past few weeks, Harvard College Library
marked three notable events with celebrations that ranged from sedate
to surreal: Lamont's transition to a 24/5 schedule and the openings
of the Quad and Fung libraries. We'll begin with the surreal

Lamont 24/5 Celebration

Hosted in conjunction with the Undergraduate
Council (UC), the Lamont 24/5 Celebration, held on a Monday
night from midnight to 1:00 am, drew almost 2,000 students--1900
more than were expected! The UC dubbed the event "Harvard's
best ever Monday night party." |

Felipe's Mexican eats and Finale's desserts
were a definite hit. Students couldn't get enough. Quesadilla
passing became a new Harvard pasttime overnight. |

Nancy Cline, Roy E. Larsen Librarian of
Harvard College, chats with Matt Glazer '06, Undergraduate
Council President. John Haddock '07 (orange shirt), a UC
member, was one of the co-authors of the report that informed
HCL's decisions around extended library hours.

Quad Library Open Houses

On the afternoon of November 7, the Quad
Library opened early to allow HCL staff the opporutnity
to visit the facility. Heather Cole, Librarian of the Lamont
Library; Emily Kelly, Evening Coordinator/Access Services
Assistant at the Quad Library; and Linda Collins, Head
of Access Services for Lamont were on hand to welcome guests.

That evening, Nancy Cline, Larsen Librarian
of Harvard College, and Benedict Gross, Dean of Harvard
College, offered remarks at a Quad Library open house for
Quad residents.

Emily Kelly, Evening Coordinator/Access
Services Assistant at the Quad Library; Susan Gilroy, Reference
Librarian; and Laureen Esser, Electronic Reserves Librarian,
were on hand at the Quad Library to demonstrate E-Research.

Fung Library Open House
 |
On November 17, the Fung Library held
an open house for all Harvard library staff, associated
centers, and the other tenants of the Knafel Building (CGIS
North). Erik Zitser, Fung Library Manager/Davis Center
Librarian, offered tours through the facility.
