Latin American, Spanish, and Portuguese Collections
The collection includes materials in all languages and all subjects in the humanities and social sciences published in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego.
While most of these materials are in Spanish or Portuguese, our acquisitions include publications in English, French, and Dutch (from the Caribbean), various indigenous languages, and regional languages and dialects of Spain such as Catalan, Galician, and Basque.
Widener's Latin American and Iberian collections are closely interwoven with the collections of other libraries at Harvard. Many government documents are housed in Government Documents/Microforms, as are most of our microform materials. The Fine Arts Library, Frances Loeb Library (design), Houghton Library (rare books), Harvard Law School Library, Loeb Music Library, and Tozzer Library (anthropology) all hold significant resources.
Suggestions for purchases are always welcome. Lynn Shirey, Librarian for Latin America, Spain, and Portugal, is available by e-mail or by phone at 617-495-2427 for reference consultations and for area-related bibliographic instruction.
