Map Collection Reproductions

Reproductions of the maps in the Harvard Map Collection are available in several formats. The Map Collection accepts local checks, Crimson Cash, and departmental 33 digit billing codes. Reproductions of Harvard College Library materials are subject to Licensing and Copyright restrictions.

Black-and-White Photocopies

Patrons may take maps and books to nearby black-and-white photocopiers in Lamont. The copiers can accommodate items up to 11" by 17" and accept Crimson Cash and U.S. legal tender. The maps must be small to medium in size, in good condition, and usually printed later than 1950. Users must get permission from and leave a form of identification with the reference librarian. Copies are $0.05 each.

Color Copies

Users may scan small maps up to 11" by 14" that are in good condition on the Map Collection's flatbed scanner. They can then print to our printer or plotter for a small fee or FTP the files to their server space. Please see a reference librarian prior to scanning. Prints are $0.25 each.

Oversized Color Copies

The Map Collection has a large format scanner and a large format plotter, operated by staff only, which can produce color copies of Map Collection materials up to 35.5" wide. Scanning is done every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon, and prints are usually available the following morning. The price for prints is $2 per square foot for Harvard students, faculty, and staff, and $5 per square foot for patrons outside of Harvard. Payment is required in advance and users must sign a Map Collection Scanning Services Agreement regarding licensing restrictions.

Harvard students, faculty, and staff can request a digital reproduction (300 dpi, JPG) of items up to 42" wide for $10 per scan. The fee is $20 per scan for those outside of Harvard University. There is an additional charge of $1 for the CD.

The Harvard Map Collection does not does not reduce or enlarge images nor does it distribute digital images of copyrighted material to non-Harvard users. Please see a reference librarian for assistance.

Photographic Reproductions

The Map Collection can make arrangements with Harvard College Library Imaging Services to make color slides, prints, digital images, and transparencies from Map Collection materials. Paper reproductions of microfilmed materials can also be made. Payment is required in advance and orders may take up to three weeks. Rush orders are available for an extra fee.
