William H. Schab.  Catalogue 46: Precious Books & Manuscripts from Aristotle to Freud.  New York, 1969.  MS cited as no. 70 and pls. 32-33 (reproducing title page in color and f.22v).
This MS, the copy prepared for the dedicatee, King Philip II of Spain, was acquired from this rare book dealer.  The text, written by Jeronimo de Prado (1547-1595) is divided into two parts.  The first section contains a Spanish translation of Ezekiel, chapters 40, 41, 42, and part of 46, along with exegetical commentary.  The second part is divided into twelve chapters and discusses the various aspects of Solomon's Temple.  The entire work is prefaced by a gilt title-page illustration of David, Solomon, and the Temple juxtaposed with the arms of Philip II, along with a sonnet devoted "Al templo de Salomon."  Identifying Philip II with Solomon, the Compendio celebrates the building of the Escorial, and is a striking testament to Spain's Siglo de Oro.
