Carol G. Marsh, “The Lovelace Manuscript: A Preliminary Study,” in Uwe Schlottermüller and Maria Richter, eds., Morgenröte des Barock: Tanz im 17. Jahrhundert. 1. Rothenfelser Tanzsymposium, 9.-13. Juni 2004, pp. 81-90. Tagungsband.  Freiburg : Fa-gisis Musik- und Tanzedition, 2004.
Marsh presents a description of the manuscript and analyses the dances in it.  She concludes that “the Lovelace manuscript offers us the opportunity to reassess the history of English country dance prior to 1651, and to force us to reconsider the privileged position accorded to Playford’s Dancing Master.”
