Auction Sales Catalogs

A catalog of a collection of pictures

A Catalogue of a Collection of Pictures... London, Phillips, May 5-13, 1834.

The Fine Arts Library holds an extensive collection of auction sales catalogs from the United States, Europe, and Asia.  This collection of over 40,000 items includes catalogs from the 18th century to the present and are available for use in the library.  The majority of our catalogs are represented in the SCIPIO database.

The Walther and Ellen Bernt collection includes significant and rare auction sales catalogs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  A checklist is available on request.

Auction sales catalogs are also available in the Microform Collections located in the stacks level of the Fine Arts Library. Two major collections are the Knoedler Library and the Art Sales Catalogues. A portion of Art Sales Catalogues is also available online through Harvard Library’s E-Research Portal. The Fine Arts Library also provides access to selected electronic resources and databases for auction results
