Widener Carrel Policy
All those assigned a carrel or hold shelf agree to abide by the following rules and regulations. Violation of these rules may result in the loss of carrel privileges. For general library policies, consult the HCL Policies page.
- Carrel and Hold Shelf ID cards, issued with the carrel or hold shelf assignment, are for your use when checking out material at the Widener Circulation Desk. These cards must be returned upon expiration of carrel or hold shelf assignment.
- Carrel and hold shelf holders are responsible for checking out all material left on their carrel at the Widener Circulation Desk, using their carrel ID card. Uncharged material will be removed from carrels on a regular basis.
- Only Widener and Pusey materials, charged to a carrel ID, may be kept on your carrel or hold shelf. Books from other libraries will be removed and returned to those libraries. Materials charged to a personal ID will be removed as well.
- All materials are subject to recall and removal by library staff. Therefore, materials must be easily accessible and cannot be locked in cabinets.
- Due to high demand, carrels are shared with other patrons. Please do not remove or interfere with materials left by others.
- Carrel holders may check out no more than 40 books to a carrel at one time.
- Each carrel holder will be assigned a combination to the locked cabinet atAugust 31, 2007ee individuals assigned to each carrel. Please do not leave valuables at, or in, your carrel. Widener Library is not responsible for lost or missing items left at/in carrels. For the security of your work, please maintain copies of all personal documentation.
- Widener Library reserves the right to routinely inspect lockers and will remove uncharged Widener material.
- Do not leave personal articles unattended.
- Use trash receptacles and remove unwanted or unsightly materials.
- Do not post anything on library walls. Use bulletin boards provided in each carrel.
- Noise levels must be held to a minimum. Conferences should not be held at carrels.
