The gifts of William Bentinck-Smith and other friends to establish a fund for Houghton Library for the purchase of books and manuscripts of scholarly importance, with preference for materials in the field of American history and literature of the period embraced by the Bibliography of American Literature, of which Mr. Blanck was so long the editor.
