December 1 (Wednesday) 9 pm - Antoine de Baecque
Directed by François Truffaut
France, 1969, color, 123 min.
With Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Nelly Borgeaud
French with English subtitles
An homage to Hitchcock and Renoir, this overlooked gem stars Belmondo as a plantation owner living off the coast of Madagascar. He awaits the arrival of his mail-order bride who comes in the exquisite form of Deneuve. But, despite her allure, he suspects that she may not be the woman he expected. To pay respects to Truffaut twenty years after his passing, Antoine de Baecque, former editor of Cahiers du cinéma and author of a wonderful biography of the filmmaker, will introduce this special event.
This screening is co-presented with French Cultural Services.
